Planning your wedding

Wilde Lodge is one of the most distinctive non-traditional and festival-style wedding venues in the Welsh Borders — and one of the only exclusive hire barn venues in Powys with an outdoor wedding ceremony licence. We believe weddings should feel like the best version of a long weekend with your favourite people — calm, unhurried and completely yours. Not a performance. Not a package. Just real time with the people who matter most, in a place that feels nothing like a traditional wedding venue.

With nine years of experience hosting every size and style of wedding at Wilde Lodge, we’ve built the tools to take the pressure out of planning. Once you’ve booked, you’ll have everything you need — and we’re always at the end of the phone for the rest.

FAQS

Wilde Lodge Weddings

During my stay is it possible to get takeaway or bakery deliveries to feed my guests whilst on site during the non wedding days?

Yes! We have a huge list of options and suppliers that can help, with everything from breakfast buns to takeaway pizzas so you can pick and choose.

What time does the music need to stop?

At Wilde Lodge, our late licence runs until 1am. We ask that music is turned down from midnight out of respect for the local area — but the bar stays open and the night carries on. At Glasbury River Cottage there is no formal music licence, so we ask that it stays to chilled background music throughout. Both venues have neighbours and wildlife nearby and we like to keep things friendly on that front.

Is Wilde Lodge a licensed wedding venue?

Yes — the whole site is licensed for civil ceremonies. Indoor options include the Dining Room (up to 16), Long Barn (up to 90) and Open Barn (up to 120). Outdoor ceremonies are available across the grounds — on the front lawn, the oak field or the Motte & Bailey Mound. Wilde Lodge is one of the only fully licensed barn wedding venues in Powys with both indoor and outdoor ceremony options.

We have guests travelling from far away — is there enough accommodation nearby?

Yes — both venues are well set up for guests travelling from further afield. Wilde Lodge is around two hours from Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff, and around two and a half hours from London. The lodge itself sleeps 16–20, and bell tents and camping in the grounds mean the whole group can stay on site in summer. For guests who prefer a hotel, Knighton is less than a mile away and we provide a full list of local accommodation on your personal hub page. Glasbury River Cottage is near Hay-on-Wye — ten minutes by car — with a range of local B&Bs and hotels nearby, and Glasbury village is a ten-minute walk along the riverbank.

We're worried about the cost — how do we know what we'll actually end up spending?

It’s one of the most common concerns we hear and we take it seriously. The hire price covers the venue and everything in it — there are no per-head charges, no minimum bar spends and no hidden extras. The add-ons — catering, drinks, bell tents — are exactly that: optional. You choose what you want and pay for what you use. We’re always transparent about costs from the first conversation, and we’ll send you a full breakdown before you commit to anything. Most couples find the total spend compares very favourably with more traditional venues once you factor in what’s included.

Can we have a festival-style wedding at Wilde Lodge?

Yes — it’s one of the things Wilde Lodge does better than almost anywhere in the Welsh Borders. With 15 acres, a safari tent, two barns, a south-facing lawn, a fire pit and bell tents in the grounds, you have all the ingredients for a multi-day festival weekend. We’ve hosted three-day celebrations with live bands, outdoor cinemas, silent discos and food trucks. If you’re imagining something like that, get in touch — we’ve done it before and we know exactly how to make it work.

Can we have a civil ceremony on site?

Yes — the whole site is licensed. Indoor options include the Dining Room (up to 16), Long Barn (up to 90) and Open Barn (up to 120). Outdoor ceremonies are available across the grounds for an additional £380. We’re happy to talk you through all the options.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

Yes — BYO is welcome on the days either side of your wedding. On the wedding day itself we’d encourage you to use the Wilde Bar Team so there’s someone on site managing drinks and keeping things running smoothly.

You can also have our bar team there on the days either side of your wedding should you wish – at no extra charge.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

We have built our pricing to give you control over your budget.

Weekend hire runs Friday 10am to Monday 10am. Midweek hire runs Tuesday 10am to Thursday 10am.

We can reduce the overall hire price by £650 for the weekend if you check out on Sunday at 11am

We can also add in an early check in on Monday from 3pm for an additional £550.

The choice is yours…

What support do you offer with planning?

Once you’ve booked you’ll get access to our detailed planning guide — a step-by-step workflow that works backwards from your wedding date to the day you book, covering everything you need to do and when, with links to suppliers, advice and resources along the way. We’ve been running weddings for nine years and we’re confident it covers everything. For anything it doesn’t, Jemma and Phoebe are always at the end of the phone. And if you do want a full wedding planner to take the reins completely, we have brilliant people we can introduce you to — but honestly, most couples find they don’t need one.

How many guests can we invite to Wilde Lodge?

Our event spaces accommodate up to 120 guests comfortably — the safari tent, open barn and long barn are all included in your hire. If you’re planning a larger celebration of up to 300 guests, it’s possible to bring in an external stretch or marquee tent, and we reduce the venue hire price accordingly to reflect the fact that you’re providing your own event space. Bell tents and camping in the grounds mean overnight guests can all stay on site in summer. In winter the focus is on the 16–20 guests staying in the house. Get in touch and we’ll talk you through what works for your numbers.

Is there a wet weather backup?

Yes — both venues have covered indoor and barn spaces for whatever the weather throws at you. At Wilde Lodge the Long Barn, Open Barn and Safari Tent provide excellent cover. At Glasbury the hay barn and greenhouse do the same. We’ve hosted plenty of celebrations in the rain and it always works out well.

Can we bring our own alcohol for a wedding or celebration hire?

Yes — BYO is welcome on the days either side of your main event. On your wedding day itself we’d encourage you to use the Wilde Bar Team, so there’s someone on site managing drinks and keeping things running smoothly.

What are the check-in and check-out times for a wedding or celebration hire?

Weekend hire runs Friday 10am to Monday 10am. Midweek hire runs Tuesday 10am to Thursday 10am. We can sometimes accommodate early check-in or late check-out — just ask.

How many people can sleep on site?

The lodge sleeps 16–20. In summer, bell tents and camping pitches in the grounds mean as many additional guests as you need can stay over. In winter it’s the lodge only.
