Local Walks

From the house you are looking directly at Lord Hereford’s Knob and Dragons back and further round to the left you can see the flat top mountain called Hay bluff.

Wye valley trail, Glasbury – On your door step. There are OS maps in the house and you can walk for miles without getting in the car.

Hay Bluff (677m): A popular and easily accessible peak, offering panoramic views over the Wye Valley and toward England.

Twmpa / Lord Hereford’s Knob (690m): Challenging walk with excellent views of the surrounding area.

The Dragon’s Back (Y Grib): A distinctive narrow ridgeline walking route

Offa’s dyke path – On your door step. Offa’s Dyke path passes through Hay and on to the Black Mountains.

Begwns, Glasbury 15 minute drive. Breathtaking 360 degree views of the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains & Radnorshire hills

Iconic Walks in the Central Brecon Beacons

Pen y Fan & Corn Du via Pont ar Daf: (886m), offering a straightforward and quick ascent with breathtaking views.

Pen y Fan Horseshoe: A challenging 9-mile, full-day ridge walk taking in Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn, and Fan y Big from Taf Fechan.

Fan y Big via Blaen y Glyn: Famous for the “diving board” rock formation,  less-crowded photography opportunities.

Cwm Llwch Horseshoe: A more technical walk starting near Brecon, taking in the dramatic northern peaks.

River Activities

Private fishing  – We have 1200m of private fishing at the lodge – £25 per head for the duration of your stay.

The river wye activity centre  – 3min drive for kayaking, canoeing, gorge walking, climbing, and abseiling.

Hay castle trust, Hay-on-wye
10 minute drive. Hay Castle is a beautifully restored historic castle in Hay‑on‑Wye. Inside you’ll find gallery spaces, a cosy café, a bookshop and spots to wander or just sit back and soak up the atmosphere.
