River Cottage Stays

A 3-bedroom riverside cottage, a vine-covered greenhouse, a hay barn and the River Wye on the doorstep — yours for the weekend, the week, or somewhere in between. Holidays, elopements, birthdays, quiet escapes or honestly no reason at all other than wanting to be somewhere genuinely beautiful with the people you love.

FAQS

Stays

Can we hold a wake or memorial celebration at either venue?

Yes — both venues work beautifully for this. A private, peaceful space where family and friends can gather properly, stay together and take the time they need. We handle these with the same care as any other booking. Get in touch and we’ll talk you through what works best for your group and numbers.

Can we really do whatever we want with the space?

Within reason, yes. Over the years we’ve levelled a lawn to fit a stretch tent, hosted a three-day festival, set up an outdoor cinema, had live Elvis performances and a silent disco in the same weekend. We’ve never said no to a good idea. If you’re planning something unusual, tell us — we’ll either make it work or tell you honestly if we can’t.

Is the site accessible for guests with disabilities?

Wilde Lodge is largely accessible on the ground floor, though the site does include uneven outdoor terrain. Glasbury River Cottage has its bedrooms upstairs, though the ground floor and outdoor spaces are accessible. If you have specific requirements, get in touch before booking and we’ll walk you through both sites in detail.

Can we come for a holiday without a big event or celebration?

Absolutely. Both venues work just as well for a relaxed group holiday as they do for a big celebration. Some of our favourite stays have been people who just wanted a few days in the Welsh Borders with the people they love — no occasion needed.

Which venue is right for us — Wilde Lodge or Glasbury River Cottage?

It depends on your numbers and what you’re after. Wilde Lodge in Knighton, Powys suits larger groups — it sleeps 16–20 in the house with space for many more in bell tents and camping in summer. Glasbury River Cottage near Hay-on-Wye is better for smaller, more intimate stays — it sleeps 7 with bell tents available for up to 30 guests in total in summer. Both are exclusive hire and both are brilliant in different ways. If you’re not sure, give us a call and we’ll help you figure it out.

How far are the venues from major cities?

Both venues are around two hours from Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff, and around two and a half hours from London. Wilde Lodge is in Knighton, Powys. Glasbury River Cottage is near Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

What's included in a holiday stay and what costs extra?

The hire price includes the lodge, all seven bedrooms, linen, towels, the fully equipped kitchen, outdoor furniture and festoon lighting. The extras — bell tents, camping pitches, catering and drinks — are all optional add-ons, so you’re only paying for what you actually want.

Can we bring our own alcohol on a holiday stay?

Yes — BYO is welcome throughout your stay.

What are the check-in and check-out times for a wedding or celebration hire?

Weekend hire runs Friday 10am to Monday 10am. Midweek hire runs Tuesday 10am to Thursday 10am. We can sometimes accommodate early check-in or late check-out — just ask.

How many people can sleep on site?

The lodge sleeps 16–20. In summer, bell tents and camping pitches in the grounds mean as many additional guests as you need can stay over. In winter it’s the lodge only.

Can we self-cater?

Yes. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and you’re welcome to bring your own food and drink. If you’d rather someone else do the cooking, we have a list of trusted local caterers we can recommend.
